Black Friday Fitness - KELOLAND TV

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

While many people were looking to gain a few good deals on Black Friday, others were looking to lose a few pounds.

"I think people are maybe feeling guilty about overindulging on Thanksgiving Day," Sanford Exercise Specialist Kristin Brown said.

This is the first Black Friday Marjorie Weidauer has spent at the gym.

"Honestly my kids were fighting. The house was a mess from Thanksgiving. My husband was asleep, so I decided to go to the gym," Weidauer said.

"A good healthy way to work off that stress is to come in and burn some calories or energy on the equipment through weights," Brown said.

On top of working out being a good stress reliever, it's also a great way to burn off those extra calories many of us eat over the holiday. Studies show the typical American eats around twice as much as they should on Thanksgiving.

"We cooked from about 8:30 in the morning to about 5:00 at night," Weidauer said.

If you didn't get a workout in today and want to burn a lot of calories in a little time, Brown says one of your best options is interval training.

"You could do twenty seconds of work and then ten seconds of rest. Pick a certain exercise, and repeat it four or five times," Brown said.

Brown says it also helps to mix cardio training with weight training or body weight training. That's what these women are doing...

"I'm sweating," Weidauer said.

...but if you didn't get fitness in on Black Friday, like Weidauer, she encourages you to start as soon as possible.

"Just get up and do it. A long time I didn't work out, and I finally started coming three days a week and started being accountable for it. It's really made me want to go every day," Weidauer said.
