Granby business expansion caters to the fitness-minded - Sky Hi Daily News

GRANBY — Mountain Beast Mixed Martial Arts in Granby is expanding to include a new fitness center that will feature everything from free weights to cardio workout machines.

The new fitness center will be connected to the fight school and will be located where Curves used to be located in Granby.

“It is not a massive facility,” said Rob Munro, owner of the two training facilities. “But for the space, we provide as much diversity in our training as possible.”

The fitness center will offer open workout sessions and classes for Olympic lifting, power lifting, body lifting, and there are plans to offer pilates classes as well. Private training sessions will also be available through the new gym.

To round out the offerings of the gym, Munro plans to dedicate a portion of the gym to a nutritional center and juice bar in a relaxing café-style that will have chairs and sofas to relax on while you drink a smoothie, tea, or coffee.

Munro plans to bring in a nutritionist who will provide members with a full body analysis to make sure their workouts are complimenting their lifestyles as well as identify any nutritional deficiencies or areas that an individual should concentrate on improving.

“We want to attack those deficiencies to make sure the training is giving you the exact results you want,” Munro said.

The new fitness center will follow the model of the fight school and will remain open 24-hours for members, giving members freedom to work out whenever they have time or want to as well as providing a place for fitness-minded individuals to hang out after hours, something Munro sees as hugely beneficial to the younger generations in the county.

“The only place you can hang out after 9 (p.m.) in this area is a bar,” Munro said. “And a lot of people don’t drink.”

Munro hopes to help foster a community of healthy, fitness-minded individuals.

“It’s a much healthier environment,” he said. “In particular for the younger guys.”
