Yoga to be done amongst the poinsettias - Journal Times

CALEDONIA — Local yoga practitioners will get a chance to experience a uniquely seasonal version of the exercise this weekend — surrounded by thousands of colorful poinsettias.

Milaeger’s will host an approximately one-hour session called Yoga in the Greenhouse starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The setting will be the main greenhouse at the north-side store, 4838 Douglas Ave.

The greenhouse — which has a heated floor — is currently filled with about 8,000 to 10,000 poinsettias, estimated Kara Kading, a third-generation Milaeger and one of the owners.

“We want to do more with the community and creating more experiences,” Kading said of offering the first-time yoga session.

Jessika Mikol, owner-operator of YogaRootsRacine, 518 College Ave., will lead the session. Mikol said it will be hatha yoga, the general kind, with “postures that will be good for everyone no matter what their ability or age.”

“It’s about breathing also,” Mikol added. And a greenhouse full of live plants should be conducive to that, Kading said, with the plants elevating the oxygen level in the approximately 25,000-square-foot greenhouse.

“When you walk into a greenhouse, you instantly feel better,” Kading said. “It’s a different energy, this pleasant comfort.”

A cleared area in the greenhouse will accommodate about 20 to 25 people with about a 6-foot space for each person, she said.

The session costs $20 plus tax which includes light refreshments. Register online at www.milaegers.com/calendarofevents.htm or in the store.
