Details announced for Walsh golf, fitness program - Sioux Falls Argus Leader

Representatives of The GreatLife Malaska Golf & Fitness Clubs this morning will announce a partnership between area golf courses, fitness centers and retail stores, according to a statement from the group putting the program together.

“Our mission is to enrich the lives of families and individuals through golf and fitness. We will be the best in value, convenience and hospitality,” president Tom Walsh Sr. said.

Walsh also is CEO of Dakota King, the franchisee for area Burger King restaurants, as well as the owner of Willow Run Golf Course.

GreatLife will bring together the following partners: Bakker’s Crossing, Central Valley, Rocky Run, and Willow Run golf courses; EmBe and Sioux Empire Fitness; Golf Addiction, which will offer discounts on golf simulators, golf leagues and golf instruction; Austad’s Golf, which will operate pro shops in all facilities; and nationally known golf instructor Mike Malaska.

With more partnerships in the works, the company said it expects to expand membership benefits by adding more courses and clubs.

A resource center in each club will connect all courses, fitness centers and partners to keep members informed of opportunities for training, specials, clinics, events and news. This hub will also allow members to book tee times for any affiliated course from any of their facilities.

GL Management LLC will offer what it calls affordable family and individual memberships that include unlimited access to its golf courses and fitness facilities all year long with some open 24/7. The membership will allow members to exercise or play at any of the golf courses and fitness centers affiliated with GreatLife Malaska Golf & Fitness Clubs.

GreatLife also will convert some facilities into full fitness centers with steam rooms and some swimming pools.

“Just as we have done with our Burger King restaurants as the best franchising in North America, our goal with GreatLife Malaska Golf & Fitness Clubs is to be ‘simply the best’ with facilities, programs and people – making a difference in people’s lives, especially children and families,” Walsh said.

GreatLife will also offer professional training and coaching for various sports at a variety of its facilities, including the partnership with Malaska, 2011 National Teacher of the Year and worldwide director for Jack Nicklaus Golf Academies.

Local LPGA pro Kris Tschetter is joining the GreatLife Malaska Golf & Fitness Clubs team as spokesperson.

“Along with our philanthropic partner EmBe, we will support and develop programs

to strengthen EmBe’s mission and efforts to positively impact the lives of girls and young women,” she said.

Argusleader.com will live stream a news conference from the group this morning at 10:30 a.m.
