Revolt Fitness in Twinsburg offers private, intense training courses - Twinsburg Bulletin

Twinsburg -- Leaving behind the hustle and bustle of a sprawling gym complex, local business owner Jefferson Meadows decided to downsize to a more intimate and customer-oriented personal training studio.

Meadows is the owner of Revolt Fitness, a 1,500 square-foot training facility located at 9741 Ravenna Road, Suite K. After a grand opening in late August, Revolt Fitness is operating in full gear to offer intense fitness courses and athletic conditioning. Customers can make use of a variety of equipment and exercise techniques, including free weights, cardio machines, medicine balls and much more.

Athletes and fitness seekers can find a scaled-down and relaxed place to train at Revolt Fitness, according to Meadows. The facility features a secluded interior and an outdoor area for conditioning routines.

"It's very private, very subdued," Meadows said. "Unlike when you go to a gym where there are so many people and activities and other things going on, people come here to get focused on training. We have a beautiful outdoor space that we use for a lot of our classes and one-on-one training. There's a small field that we utilize for pushing a plow, dragging sleds, flipping tires ... a lot of different things you couldn't do at a regular gym."

Revolt Fitness currently employs no regular staff. Instead, a team of about six independently contracted personal trainers pay to use the facility and equipment, Meadows said.

"The trainers basically set their own hours, get their own clients and they just utilize the space, paying back a small percentage of their training [fees]," Meadows said. "That helps us cover our costs and they seem to love it so far. We want to try to keep the actual management side of the business to bare-bones minimum so there's not a lot for me to worry about other than my own clients."

As the previous owner of Powerhouse Gym in Twinsburg, which he operated from December 2006 to June 2012, Meadows said he was compelled to scale down his operations after selling his business. Powerhouse Gym boasted around 32,000 square feet, Meadows said. With a less distracting and more neighborly atmosphere, Revolt Fitness allows him to worry less about managing a gym and more about meeting a customer's needs.

"I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with my career and I decided I didn't want to be in a big chain gym anymore, I'd rather do a smaller studio-style [business] and focus on the clients themselves," Meadows said. "That's easier to manage, it's less distractions. Things like that just make it more personable and make a lot more friendly environment."

Revolt Fitness is open to customers of all fitness levels and new clients are invited to try their first session free of charge.

"We allow people to come in and try the class out for the first time for free. Pretty much everybody can take the classes, barring any severe injuries that they're worried about."
