The funniest thing happened to me this morning. I went down to Klyde Warren Park for my regular outdoor yoga session. As I transitioned from the crane pose to the downward facing dog, or something, I ran smack into the good folks from Cigna.

OK, those who know me know that yoga-ing isn't my thing. But hey, for those who are into it, more power to you.

I actually did catch up with David Cordani[1] , president and CEO of Cigna Corp.[2] , at the park over Woodall Rodgers Expressway. And there was a yoga class there.

Cordani was there with LaMonte Thomas[3] , Cigna's president and general manager for North Texas and Oklahoma, to announce Cigna's exclusive sponsorship of all fitness programs offered in Klyde Warren Park. That goes for yoga, Zumba, tai chi, ping pong, foosball and croquet, for those of you who are counting. Also, badminton and a French game called pétanque.

As part of the sponsorship, those activities and fitness programs in the urban park will be promoted as “Health and Wellness at Klyde Warren Park Presented by Cigna.” And Cigna health coaches will participate in the park's speaker series.

Cigna and park officials didn't say how much Cigna is contributing toward this cause, but it's a two-year commitment. I suspect there was an envelope full of cash under one of the yoga mats.

Cordani told me that it's a smart move for Cigna because it will help folks associate the health insurer with fitness.

"Our mantra is to be active in the communities that we work, live and play in everyday," the CEO said.

Thomas told me the company, whose North Texas operations are based in Plano, is dedicated to building healthy communities.

Bill covers health care, law and education.
