Yoga programs offered in Millburn Township - NorthJersey.com

This fall Christ Church, 66 Highland Ave., Short Hills[1] , is hosting an all-level yoga class on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The class will include a gentle flowing sequence of yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation practices. Following yoga, there will be a half hour meditation practice that will include instruction on effective posture and breath. Different meditation practices will be explored and take-home practice materials will be provided.

The two classes can be taken together for $15 or separately for $10 or $5 respectively. Yoga mats and props will be provided if needed.

"The yoga mat is a temple and a gymnasium," said instructor Carl Klemme. "When you unroll it and get on, the practice affords you countless physical benefits. But the profound thing about yoga happens to your mind and in your heart. A good class affords you both, and ideally, the practice on the mat spills over into the rest of your life. Yoga is ultimately an art of awareness and every aspect of it reveals more and more of your self to you."

Klemme has been practicing yoga for 25 years and has spent 18 years as a professional instructor. He completed both the 200-hour and 500-hour certifications at Kripalu Yoga Center in Lenox, Mass. He is the co-founder, with his wife, Erin, of P.S. 108, a 501(c)(3) non-profit yoga studio in Bedminster (www.ps108.org), and co-director of their Jivana Yoga teacher-training program. His classes are open to all levels of practitioners.
