Yoga studio to open Oct. 28 - Manchester Journal

MANCHESTER VILLAGE - Andrea Ross and Jo Kirsch, E-RYT 500, have announced plans for the opening of Heart of the Village Yoga Studio on Oct. 28.

The newly renovated studio is located at 3556 Main Street, on the third floor of the Little Equinox Building, directly across from the Equinox Resort in the heart of Manchester Village.

"We are offering a spectrum of yoga classes appropriate for beginners and more experienced practitioners," said Kirsch. "All classes will focus on movement with awareness, correct alignment, compassion, focused breathing, and stillness." Kirsch has been practicing yoga for 22 years and teaching for 12.

"The practice of yoga opens one's heart, mind, and body," said Ross. "It is my hope that Heart of the Village Yoga will expose others to this practice that enlightens all of our lives, individually and collectively. It is my hope that what is taught in our studio can be incorporated into one's daily life. The practice of yoga in the studio becomes a rehearsal for one's authentic practice within the greater community."

Researchers are finding more and more evidence that the practice of yoga may help prevent and heal some of our most common complaints.

Increasing numbers of physicians are recommending yoga to help reduce pain, decrease depression and anxiety, help with sleep disorders, maintain a healthy weight, strengthen the body's immune system, help reduce risk factors for heart disease, reduce back pain, and increase flexibility, allowing the body to be physically active throughout life.

"My 86-year-old father said I took better care of my cars throughout my life than my body'," said Kirsch. "Practicing yoga puts us in touch with our selves, physically and emotionally, and empowers us to keep our engines running smoothly as we age."
