PARMA, Ohio - With sunshine in the forecast for the remainder of the week, Parma residents now have a new and improved option for walking and exercising outdoors.
Thanks to a partnership between Parma Community General Hospital and the city of Parma, officials unveiled the city's second outdoor fitness trail Tuesday at James Day Park on Pleasant Valley Road.
Parma Hospital made a donation of approximately $25,000 to the city of Parma for the purchase of new fitness equipment.
"It was an easy decision for us," said Parma Community General Hospital president and CEO Terrence Deis. "We're all about wellness at the hospital. We're all about community."
The plan for the one-half mile long exercise trail was in the works for more than a year.
In addition to the new equipment, city workers upgraded existing equipment at the park and re-paved the walking path.
"This allows our residents to come to our wonderful parks and utilize and stay healthy and it's very family friendly," said Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter.
Parma's other outdoor fitness trail is located at Veterans Memorial Park (State Road Park).
