ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- This Sunday, thousands of runners will take part in the third annual Empire State Marathon, half marathon and relay. The race continues to grow, with a 30 percent increase in runners.
Forty-seven states and seven countries will be represented. Regardless of which event they run in, each of them has to pick up their race packet at the New York State Health and Fitness Expo.
The two day event is not just for runners. Anyone can stop by Drivers Village to learn more about the race, purchase health and athletic products, or take advantage of health screenings.
Race organizers say the expo is just as important as the race.
"We really want to expand this as well and turn it into a signature event in and of itself, whether you're running in the marathon or half marathon or relay or not. That we have a health and wellness expo that really defines all the things you can do in this community," said event director Brian Collins.
The health expo runs again Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
