Insiders guide to Charlotte fitness - Charlotte Observer

Written by Cathy Bortz

As the new year arrives women of all ages resolve to find time to exercise and get in shape.

This is never as simple as it seems.

Charlotte has had a recent surge in new workout studios - from cycle studios to barre classes - yet finding the right class can be both expensive and time consuming.

It is important to find a class that fits your budget, time schedule, and fitness goals.

Each week I will take you inside a different exercise class giving you an honest review of the intensity level, friendliness, and safety. I will also provide basic information such as costs, schedule, and childcare availability.

My hope is that this information will lead you to find the class or studio that will keep you motivated all year long.

Some things to consider as you begin to explore classes:

First and foremost, make sure your doctor has cleared you to begin an exercise program.

If you have any longstanding injuries, such as bad knees or a bad back, let the instructor know before the class starts so that modifications can be made if they are needed.

Always let the instructor know that this is your first time attending the class, they will make sure you have the right equipment and also give you more personal attention during the class.

Remember when trying any new skill, there will be a learning curve, it may take 5 or six classes before you really buy into what you are doing.

Most of all it should be fun! Even if it is new and challenging, you should still find enjoyment in the classes you take.

Lastly, if there is a studio or class that you would love for me to review feel free to email your suggestions.[1]
