Fighting breast cancer with a yoga workshop - Hopkinton Crier

Breast Cancer Awareness month starts next week, and a local yoga studio is kicking off early, with a breast cancer awareness and fundraising event Friday.

Absolute Yoga, at 77 West Main St., will host a workshop and fundraiser from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27. The event will raise money toward Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, an American Cancer Society 5K in Boston on Oct. 6.

"People of all abilities can take this ... it's for everybody," said instructor Amy Harper, of the workshop. Harper will be the one walking in the Oct. 6 5K.

The studio's instructors will provide a series of short yoga sessions, switching out every 15 minutes. The event will be catered by Panera Bread, said Absolute Yoga owner Amy Karibian.

A raffle after the workshop includes items donated from local and national businesses. Raffle items include Lululemon products, a $100 giftcard to Southborough's Tomasso Trattoria, an $80 package to Dream Dinners in Milford, a reiki massage from Full Spirit in Holliston and gift certificates to both Absolute Yoga and Mystic Fitness, a Framingham yoga studio also owned by Karibian.

A Berkeley College of Music teacher, also a student at Absolute Yoga, will play guitar.

Admission is $20, and because all instructors and vendor are volunteering - including Panera Bread - all proceeds will go toward breast cancer research. Raffle tickets are $2.

"I’d love to raise any level that helps," Harper added, but said she's aiming for $500.

For more information or to sign up for the event, call 508-246-8282. You can also sign up for the event at www.absoluteyoga.net, but unannounced walk-ins are also welcome.
