New Yoga Exhibit Opens at the Smithsonian's Sackler Gallery - Babble

SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION Yoga fans, listen up! The Smithsonian’s Arthur M. Sackler Gallery is opening up the first exhibition about the visual history of yoga next month. Looking at yoga’s ancient roots over the past 2,000 years, this visual display will include over 130 objects from 25 different private collections and museums in India, Europe and the U.S.

Some of those artifacts include 10 folios from the very first illustrated compilation of yogic postures and three stone yogini goddesses from a 10th century south Indian temple. The exhibit will be host to several free events, including “Diwali and the Art of Yoga,” on October 26th. Activities will include rangoli drawings, games, free yoga classes, music, and an Indian music concert!

Admission to the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery is free and you’ll find it located near the Smithsonian Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange lines. Advance registration to workshops and events may be required, however you can find all the information and schedules by visiting asia.si.edu/events/workshops.asp[1] .
