New Life Fitness World Gyms Close After Over 25 Years - WLTX.com

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - New Life Fitness World gym, which has four locations in the Midlands, will be closing their doors for good after over 25 years.

According to a letter sent to gym members from the corporate staff of New Life, they say the decision to close was made with "difficulty and only after much soul-searching and careful consideration."

According to Bonnie Cogswell, Gold's Gym manager of human resources and member services, her company will be working closely members of New Life to help them continue their fitness.

Here is part of the letter that New Life is sending to its members:

Gold's Gym and New Life Fitness World have worked together to create a plan to enable New Life members to have access to the five state-of-the-art facilities that Gold's Gym operates in the Columbia/Lexington, SC area.

Consequently, as of January 1st, Gold's Gym has agreed to serve New Life's members at any of their clubs in Columbia and Lexington.

Gold's Gym and New Life Fitness World agree that all current members' contracts will be handled as follows:

• All paid-in-full memberships - one- or two-year contracts where the member has paid all of the money up front - will be honored by Gold's Gym until their expiration date - whether they expire at the current location or at the new facility.

• All accounts receivable members - any member who pays monthly via automatic credit card or bank draft, or via cash or check - will continue to have the same payment schedule until their expiration date, whether they expire at the current location or at the new facility.

• New Life Fitness lifetime or VIP memberships were purchased more than 25 years ago at a one-time fee or low annual renewal rate. According to SC Department of Consumer Affairs, all lifetime and guaranteed renewal memberships were deemed invalid after 1990, but because we appreciate all members, we never invalidated any of these memberships. Going forward, all of these members will be offered a special monthly rate to continue their memberships at Gold's Gym. These members will be given a grace period (until January 31st) to sign a new agreement with Gold's Gym.
