Baystate Franklin Oncology Department offers gentle yoga for breast cancer ... - The Recorder

GREENFIELD — Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Oncology Department will present a series of free eight-week yoga classes, “Gentle Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors.”


The series will take place on Wednesdays, with the first series taking place Jan. 8 to Feb. 26, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the YMCA. The second series will run March 5 to April 30, with a third session scheduled for May to June 2014.


Course facilitator is Pam Roberts, a 20-year breast cancer survivor and a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher. Roberts is also a certified Yoga of the Heart for Cardiac and Cancer Patients instructor.


The weekly Gentle Yoga classes for women who have been living with a breast cancer diagnosis consist of stretching, strengthening, and breathing and deep relaxation exercises.


The program is funded by the Rays of Hope — a Walk and Run Toward the Cure of Breast Cancer.
