NC Air Force takes day to focus on mental fitness - Charlotte Observer

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. Members of the Air Force's 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base are taking a day to focus on bolstering mental health.

Air Force officials say Monday's event has servicemen and women meet to help each other overcome adversity and grow stronger in spite of potentially life-altering events.

America's military services have begun to focus on such issues in order to help the military cope with the difficulties of deployments and dealing with the stresses of years of combat.

Monday's program is one of four that will be held throughout the year. Others will focus on physical, social and spiritual fitness.

Officials say the day is part a program called "Every Airman Counts" begun by the Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Larry Spencer.
