BODY Education Fitness Studio to Open in Arlington Heights - Chicago Tribune

A new fitness studio, named BODY Education, run by Prospect Heights native and Arlington Heights resident Danielle McLaughlin, is slated to open in early January at 530 S. Arthur Ave. in Arlington Heights.

McLaughlin, a holistic health educator with nearly a decade of fitness training experience and a degree in exercise physiology, will open the 800 square foot studio for private and small group fitness training, in early January 2014.

McLaughlin’s philosophy is that of functional fitness or fitness that enhances daily living and activities. At BODY Education, you will not only get a workout that burns fat, we will look at the body as a whole to help you receive overall health.

BODY Education will offer group training classes, along with one-on-one training sessions. The studio features expansive windows to enhance the workout experience and state-of-the art rubberized floors designed to help protect students from injury. Group classes are scheduled for six days a week and range from $15-$17 per session. Individual sessions vary.

“My functional fitness philosophy relates to the way we live and I design exercise classes and plans that enhance our lifestyles,” McLaughlin said. “My regimens are developed to help promote healthy living for individuals of all ages and fitness levels.”

Contrary to most fitness studios or health clubs, visitors and students won’t see a scale or tape measure anywhere at BODY Education. According to McLaughlin, her studio is built on the premise that fitness is all about feeling fit, strong and healthy, not basing success solely on the scale number.

“So many studios focus on how many pounds a person has dropped,” said McLaughlin. “My philosophy is just the opposite. Once I start working with a client, they start feeling better, clothes become looser and they feel so much stronger. Everything else just falls into place. It truly is about a change in lifestyle.”

McLaughlin holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. Additionally, she holds certifications as a C.H.E.K. Holistic Lifestyle Coach (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology), a C.H.E.K. Exercise Coach, a Certified FDN Practitioner (Functional Diagnostic Nutrition) and is an A.FA.A. Group Fitness Instructor from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.

In addition to one-on-one sessions and group training, McLaughlin also has a monthly education focus for her clients with topics ranging from Detoxing Your Body, Navigating the Grocery Store and Burning

Body Fat, to name just a few. A typical session incorporates 10 minutes of stretching, 30 minutes of strength training and 20 minutes of cardio.

From beginners and intermediate to advanced students, McLaughlin hopes to help add structure and enhance their exercise repertoire. “No matter what our fitness level is, we can always learn something we didn’t know, or focus on an area that may have been overlooked before,” she said. McLaughlin stresses that the benefits from Functional Fitness are many, including improving hormone balance, helping the body detox, increasing immune strength and burning fat.
