To be held under the guidance of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade, the students will attempt to replace the Guinness Book Of World Record created by the Vivekanand Kendra in Jiwaji University, Gwalior, on November 19, 2005 when 29,973 students from 362 schools performed Suryanamaskar for 18 minutes.
The initiative, Yoga for Future 2013, will see nearly a lakh students in 10 centres in Dakshina Kannada and 38 centres in Udupi performing Suryanamaskar simultaneously between 10 am and 10.30am.
The students have been selected from primary school to pre-university.
A preliminary meeting regarding this was held under the presidentship of district in charge minister B Ramanath Rai on Saturday. Rai is also the president of the organizing committee of Yoga for Future.
Yoga instructor Shashikanth Jain said that the students will arrive at the respective venues by 9 am and the largest yoga class will commence at 10am. "The process will be duly videographed. Each centre will have two certifying officers and teams of 50 students," he added.
The participating institutions are: Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Shantivana Trust, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Department of Public Instructions, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Yoga and Ethical Education.
In Dakshina Kannada district, the yoga classes will be held simultaneously at Nehru Maidan, Swaraj Maidan, Moodbidri, Ratnavarma Stadium, Belthangady, Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka, Sri Sathya Sai Lokaseva Vidya Kendra, Alike, Kombettu High School Maidan, Puttur, Vivekananda School Grounds, Tenikila, St Philomena's Grounds, Puttur, Ramakunja School Grounds and KVJ School Grounds, Sullia.
Many attempts have been done to erase the world record created in Jiwaji University in 2005. On February 18 this year, nearly three crore people performed Suryanamaskar simultaneously across the country. The event was organized by the Vivekananda 150 Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee at over 80 centres.
On January 12, 2012, students from more than 6,000 schools in Madhya Pradesh[1] performed Suryanamaskar with the hope of setting a Guinness Book of World Record. Over one crore people, including 50 lakh students reportedly participated in the event. However, these attempts failed to get a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records.
