O2 Modern Fitness closing - Arizona Daily Star

After a four-year ride downtown, O2 Modern Fitness will close after classes on Sunday.

“It is time to move on,” said Susan Frank, owner of the fitness studio at 186 E. Broadway. “I am closing O2 in order to focus on a variety of projects that grew from my experiences running a community-based fitness studio and athletic training center.”

Frank will continue to support her husband, Kurt Rosenquist, with his bike-fitting studio, Fitworks Cycling Support, which is located behind O2. “I am happy that I will continue to see O2 clients frequently who will still be consulting with Kurt regarding their cycling needs.”

Closing the studio is bittersweet for Frank. The fitness studio provided a place for her to help people improve their physical and mental fitness. And she has enjoyed the work. “People have literally changed their lives over the last four years. I am honored to have been in the company of such incredible energy and commitment.”

Although Frank will no longer have a storefront fitness studio, she won’t be sitting still. As co-promoter of the Old Pueblo Grand Prix bike race, Frank will be spending “a tremendous amount of time” preparing for the fourth annual event, which takes place on March 8. In addition, they’ve added a new event on March 9 called the Old Pueblo Gran Fundo. It’s a fun ride on The Loop, where the professionals who are in town for the OPGP will ride along with the public.

“Post-March is still a mystery,” Frank said. “My hope is that I can use all that I have learned from O2 and continue to help our community get healthier and more active.” Frank plans to work with public and private organizations to address how to increase physical fitness activity in local businesses .

Frank also plans to develop fitness certification programs for fitness professionals. InCYCL — interval cycling — is her first program to launch and there are about 20 certified trainers using this method.

The studio space will not remain empty for long. Frank said a new independent gym, DNA Downtown, will move in and open the first week of January. DNA will honor remaining class passes from O2 clients through the end of February. It will also continue to offer indoor cycling classes based on O2’s InCYCL.
