Healthy diet, fish oil benefit prostate cancer patients - KSBY San Luis Obispo News

Men with prostate cancer can improve their disease status by following a healthy diet and taking fish oil supplements.

Researchers at UCLA had a group of men with prostate cancer follow a low-fat diet and take fish oil supplements for four to six weeks. Another group followed a higher-fat, Western diet.

They found those on the low-fat, fish oil diet had fewer inflammatory properties in their blood and scored lower on a measure used to predict the risk for cancer recurrence.

The study did not address whether the low-fat diet, the fish oil supplements or the combination of both is what lead to the improvement.

The researchers say this is important because by altering diet, they were able to favorably change the biology of prostate cancers.
