A California yoga towel maker filed a lawsuit against Under Armour Inc.[1] for allegedly infringing on a patent. for its “Skidless” yoga towel.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based Yogitoes LLC filed the lawsuit Nov. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California alleging that Under Armour’s Grippy Towel infringes on a 2005 patent for Yogitoes’ “Skidless” yoga towel. Yogitoes founder Susan Nichols[2] in 2003 created the company’s Skidless towel, which has a sticky underside, after slipping on a yoga mat.

Baltimore-based Under Armour’s yoga towel recently hit the market.

Yogitoes is seeking an injunction against patent infringement, actual damages, treble damages — triple the amount of actual damages — and attorneys’ fees. The lawsuit also demands a trial by jury.

Under Armour (NYSE: UA) has not yet filed a response to the suit, but the company said it is aware of the suit and is addressing it. Attorneys for Yogitoes did not immediately return requests for comment.
