Free Thanksgiving dinner Thursday
GALESBURG — A free Thanksgiving dinner will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter, 435 E. Third St. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will include turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pumpkin pie. This feast is open to anyone in need and to others who would be home alone on Thanksgiving Day. RSVP would be appreciated by calling 343-4151.
Rules of the Road Review Course Dec. 2
GALESBURG — Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with the Galesburg Kiwanis Club, is offering a Rules of the Road Review Course for all citizens in the Galesburg area, from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 2 at IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, 404 W. Carl Sandburg Drive. The course is free to anyone who wishes to attend.
The purpose of the course is to help participants pass the Illinois driver’s license renewal examination. The course prepares applicants for the general written and road examinations, and also provides information on the vision screening.
Red Cross blood drives announced
GALESBURG — The American Red Cross will have blood drives at the following times and locations:
Dec. 3 — 2 to 6 p.m., Galesburg Blood Donation Center, 143 E. Main St.
Dec. 10 — 2 to 6 p.m., Galesburg Blood Donation Center, 143 E. Main St.
Dec. 11 — 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., American Legion Hall, 1110 N. 11th St., Monmouth
Nov. 12 — 2 to 5 p.m., American Legion Hall, 546 State Route 41, Abingdon

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification, are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are generally in good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Extension presents healthy eating info
GALESBURG — The holidays are time for joy and good cheer — peace on Earth and good will toward all! Yet it seems like we tend to be are more concerned with the food and/or the repercussion of overindulging than any of the “joys” of the season.
Do you stress out about gaining weight over the holidays? Then ’Tis the Season to Be Healthy is the program for you!
While spreads of delicious foods and decadent desserts are part of holiday celebrations, they don’t have to cause stress or diet blunders.
Nutrition and wellness educator Mekenzie Riley will guide participants through the traps of holiday weight gain with helpful tricks to stay healthy and satisfied from November to New Year. Demonstration of a healthy holiday recipe is included, with recipes to take home and share.
