New Yoga Class Looks like Cirque Du Soleil - WKRG-TV

There's a new yoga studio that's taking workout classes to new heights. The Fit Nest studio in Midtown Mobile is now offering aerial yoga. Aerial yoga looks a lot like a Cirque Du Soleil production, and it's the newest type of yoga class to hit the Gulf Coast. It involves using silk swings to assist in yoga poses and toning.

Instructor Jennifer Hunt says participants spend as much time dangling from silk swings, as they do on the floor. "I am in my 40s, and I can do fun tricks on the silks. It's for anyone, anyone who is brave enough to give silks a try." Participants say the key is trusting that the silks are going to hold you. Once you get comfortable with that, going upside down is easy! Participant Carah Hall Watts says, "Everyday is something new. You can unwind with it and get intense and work every single muscle and not realize you are doing it." Tjaden O'Dowd Cox is now teaching Aerial Yoga at the Fit Nest. She can complete some of the more complicated moves. She says, "Cirque du Soleil came to mind when I first saw this, and I thought, there is no way I could do that. Now I am teaching it."

Perhaps part of the reason this class is so popular is that it brings you back to childhood. Jennifer Hunt says, "You are swinging through the air, you are hanging upside down, something you don't normally do as adults."

The Fit Nest is located at 2569 Dauphin Street. It offers several Aerial Yoga classes throughout the week and on Saturday morning. For more information, call 558-5845 or visit https://www.facebook.com/jenniferhuntfitness[1]
