Our Baker family gatherings tend to include at least one game or two, and I expect that to continue during the upcoming holidays.
Some of the grand kids play on high school baseball teams, and they love it when we adults also play in informal games. Recently, I also bought a kickball, and we had an enthusiastic kickball game out in our big yard.
The beagle, Izzy, looks so cute when she watches! The area for games is just beyond her Invisible Fence, so she is part of the audience.
This all leads up to today's fitness tips, provided by the Life Fitness folks. The series of tips is reflected by even more holiday food & fitness tips, which are on today's Health page[1] .
The following ideas are offered as part of the Thanksgiving holiday in your home:
Get the family together and go for a hike, before the football games start. If early in the day doesn't work, try the family walk after dinner.
Race in the Scott County Family Y's Turkey Trot, which steps off early Thursday in downtown Davenport. This race is popular with the local fitness crowd, and many families take part in it. Find details online[2] .
Don't just watch football, play it! I suggest the flag football variety, and be wary of those family members who actually used to play football, say on high school or college teams. They know what they are doing!
Get your game on ... like with an XBox or Wii. Set up a family competition.
We all love those Thanksgiving dinners, but the key is to stay active too, and burn off the calories.
